As a teacher, I get my best ideas in the shower. I mean literally as I’m letting the steaming hot water hit my face,  the lightbulb in my head goes off and (ding, ding, ding) I have to try this new idea. A couple of months ago this happened after repeatedly getting ten to fifteen frantic messages on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram from teachers. No matter the teacher or the concern,  the message was usually the same.

Teachers are worried and they need advice.

Even after I posed the question on social media, I could never sleep  thinking about how that teacher was doing in solving their “issue”. So that bright Wednesday morning as I was was washing my face a thought came to me.  What if we (by we I mean all the writers of The Educator’s Room) came together and actually used our own experiences and research to brainstorm solutions to problems that are unique to teachers?

This seemed pretty simple to me, but I’m an overthinker and the first thing I did was ask my writers. After a lot of dialogue, they were all for it, but they all had the same question. Did I think other teachers would find value in this type of service?

So doing what politicians usually don’t do, I decided to ask all 80,000 of our subscribers in a survey. After three weeks of running this survey, we had over 5,000 responses and an overwhelming amount of teachers said they needed this service ONLY if we addressed the issues they really cared about.

That was the start of The Learning Academy. I could go on and on about what this service is about, but I won’t insult your intelligence so click on the video below to learn more, but I will tell you this- this class is awesome.

After “grinding” for more than 100 hours in creating this class, we know that new teachers are going to enjoy what we have created.  Our first two modules (they last for a total of 8 weeks) are focused around teacher burnout and with these modules (alone)  you will receive the following:

-8 Private Podcasts

-4 Private Videos

-8 weeks of original content which include at least 32 activities

-A free download of Keep the Fire Burning: Avoiding Teacher Burnout

Sheesh, that’s a lot ( and that’s only the first 8 weeks) but we know it’s needed. Teachers don’t get structured support due to the increased demand for testing across school districts. Essentially, The Learning Academy is class created by teachers for other teachers.

Cool, right?

The best thing is that we’re treating this like you do when you get new students every year (or month, day, or week–depending on your school) and we’re only opening enrollment up twice a year-once in the summer and once in the winter. Once you’ve signed up you’re good. If you miss it you have to wait until the next open period.

You may ask why are we limiting registration, but for us it’s simple. We really want to help teachers and this class will be full of information so  to make sure people don’t feel overwhelmed  we’ve done a few things:

–New content is paced for you to finish ON YOUR OWN. You will not get a LATE NOTICE for not completing an activity. You take the course as you need to.

Here are some other cool things for you to continue as you think about this program:

-We have created a new community only for members of the program to keep people “safe” with their questions, concerns, issues. This community is private and we want to make sure teachers feel safe- to say whatever.

-Registration will open only twice a  year. [FYI: Right now the registration is open now, but we will close in two weeks. No exceptions. We don’t want people so behind they give up.]
