Teachers come in all shapes and sizes. They come from different educational backgrounds, choose to teach at different schools, and teach at different grade levels. Just like there are so many of us, there are so many “that teachers.” That teacher could be bad, just like he or she can be good. Just like there is no right way to teach, but there is definitely a wrong way.

Teaching is a paradox, isn’t it? What type of “that teacher” do you want to be remembered as?
1. That teacher who is always late. She is late to duty and late to school.
2. That teacher who always shows movies because she doesn’t want to teach.
3. That teacher who makes us all look bad because she is just that awesome.
4. That teacher who leaves a mess in the teachers’ lounge and doesn’t clean it up.
5. That teacher who can chew out a kid and still be loved by the same kid.
6. That teacher who always says “When I was at ____ school…” (ugh, well go back there…)
7. That teacher who stays past 6:00pm to grade papers.
8. That teacher who shows up at 5:30am to make copies.
9. That teacher who is hanging by a thread and doesn’t tell anyone she needs help.
10. That teacher who makes her students want to be a teacher.
11. That teacher who thinks she knows everything and refuses to change.
12. That teacher who has the coolest ideas and you beg, borrow, and steal them.
13. That teacher who left the classroom to work for the district and wants more than anything to come back.
14. That teacher who waits till the last minute to put in grades.
15. That teacher who lectures for 90 minutes and the kids still love his class.
16. That teacher who complains about everything, but doesn’t do anything.

18. That teacher who is still in grad school and is drowning.
19. That teacher who just does her job and goes home.
20. That teacher who inspires her students and co-workers to be a better person.
We teach hundreds, if not thousands, of students in our career. And while we may forget some of them, they always remember us. It is up to you how they remember you. Most of them remember the best and the worst teachers. We certainly want to have a positive impact on our students. I know every day we try to be the best we can be. We will always be “that” teacher at one point in our careers, just be aware little eyes are watching and little ears are hearing.

Just like our students, our co-workers feed off of us. We talk about “that teacher” and it can be positive or negative. We hope our fellow teachers say good things about us to others. It is a reminder, (I know as if we don’t have enough pressure on us), that others are affected by what we say or do.
