Since Donald Trump took office, the news cycle has reached an unprecedented level of intensity around education. The constant stream of breaking news, viral controversies, and information overload can be overwhelming, making it difficult to distinguish fact from noise. That’s why at The Educator’s Room, we are committed to helping educators and the broader community make sense of it all. Our goal is to break down what truly matters and provide the context needed to navigate these complex times.

Independent journalism thrives with the support of readers like you. If you value our work and believe in amplifying educator voices, consider donating to The Educator’s Room today.

3 Dangerous Phrases to Remove From Your Vocabulary

by Allyson A. RobinsonAugust 19, 2019

As a teacher, we can get overwhelmed fast. In the midst of being tired, irritable, and frustrated, we can say some destructive words to ourselves, and if we’re not careful, to our students as well.  Here are three phrases you should try to stay away from this school year.  “Is it summer vacation yet?” I’m […]

The Most Dangerous Teachers in Your Building

by Allyson A. RobinsonAugust 12, 2019August 11, 2019

You know them when you see them…or hear them.  “I’m tired of this school.” “I can’t wait until this year is over.” “I’m just here for my check.” “I can’t stand any of these children.” I’m sure that halfway through reading those statements above, someone (or a group of someones) came to your mind. Are You a Broke-Down Teacher?

by Allyson A. RobinsonAugust 7, 2019August 5, 2019

This year, I’ll be teaching at a brand new school, in a brand new county, in a brand new state, and in a brand new country.  I’m full of anxiety, excitement, and the usual question of “Can I really do this?”  When I interviewed for the position, I asked the normal questions to find out […]

A Letter to My New Student

by Allyson A. RobinsonAugust 5, 2019

I won’t always be nice and bubbly. Sometimes, you may get the sour side, like a Sour Patch […]

It’s time for the summer migration. Do you have a new teaching job? There are some teachers who are already relaxing, enjoying their #TERSchoolFreeSummer without a care in the world. Their classroom materials are put up nicely in their classroom of 3+ years. They already know how they’re going to set up their room for […]

Are We Setting Unrealistic Expectations for Administrators?

by Allyson A. RobinsonJune 24, 2019

This week, I was personally dealing with having to acknowledge the unrealistic expectations for someone in my life. While addressing them, I also revealed that I had been trying to live up to unrealistic expectations that someone else set for me…or that I felt were being set without the person ever telling me.  It caused […]

Summer Self-Care Tips for Educators

by Allyson A. RobinsonJune 13, 2019June 9, 2019

I’m not going to talk about that place you work at for a summer article. I don’t want you thinking too much about that place, but I will talk about how much you need to rest and implement self-care this summer before going back to your place of employment.  Here are some ideas on how […]
