Curriculum Associates denies wrongdoing, cites 57-year track record of educator trust

Curriculum Associates, the education technology company behind the widely used I-Ready learning platform, is facing a civil lawsuit over its handling of student data — a legal challenge the company is firmly pushing back against.

The lawsuit is one of several similar actions filed against education technology providers in recent months. Curriculum Associates maintains that the claims against it are without legal merit.

“We do not sell student data to third parties, use student data for advertising, or build commercial profiles on students,” the company said in a statement, adding that all student data use is for educational purposes and carried out with the consent of the schools and districts that own the data.

Founded in 1969, the Massachusetts-based company has spent more than five decades developing research-based curriculum and assessment tools. Its i-Ready platform — which includes i-Ready Inform and i-Ready Personalized Instruction — is used by school districts across the country for reading and math assessment and instruction.

The company says i-Ready collects only the limited personal information necessary to deliver its personalized learning services, and that all data practices are consistent with applicable federal and state law.

Curriculum Associates emphasized that protecting student information remains central to its mission. “We know that trust is essential when it comes to student data,” the company said, pledging continued commitment to providing schools with what it called “safe, high-quality, effective learning tools.”

The lawsuit is ongoing.
