3. If you need/want information, be proactive. Your administrator may not have let you know why Joey was suspended for three days, and other students are spreading rumors. You got no email or other heads-up from the assistant principal about the situation. So what should you do? Go and ask the administrative team! It is much more likely that an email to you just wasn’t near enough to the top of the list for the administrator dealing with that issue. If you ask, the worst that will happen is that they may tell you that  won’t be entitled to the information. But if you are, you’ll go back into the classroom more well-informed and equipped to help that student transition back into the classroom when he or she returns. Likewise, find an appropriate time to ask if you’d like to know what’s behind the principal’s new writing initiative, the sudden departure of a staff member, etc. Your principal would rather that you ask than fall victim to the rumor mill, which we all know can happen all too easily.
